Burns Night Supper 2016
On January 25th early this year, GUBLDS members donned their tartan and swallowed a free dram a' whisky to celebrate the traditional annual Scottish Burns Night Supper. Cosied away in the candle-lit Bank St Bar, GUBLDS had fun socializing, drinking and enjoying a great value 3 course all Scottish meal- there was even tablet ice cream! There was fun and laughter as we all tried out our best Rabbie Burns impersonations when the haggis began to appear from the kitchen. All in all, it was a fantastic night and a great experience of Scottish culture.

Winter Ball 2015
On 7th December, GUBLDS invited members and non-members alike to the sparkly extravaganza of its Winter Ball. The GUU Dining Hall was transformed for the night into a winter wonderland to provide the stage for a magical and fun-filled evening of dancing. Everyone got the chance to show off their new ballroom skills and try them out with different partners. Off the dance floor as well, there was lots of socializing going on and we have the pictures to prove it! All in all, this ball was a fitting end to such a great series of classes and enabled everyone to leave for the Christmas holidays on a very positive note and with merry memories of GUBLDS!

Spooky Halloween Subcrawl
For Halloween, our members got out their fake blood and scary costumes to join us on a spooky subcrawl through Glasgow. A special treat from us: everyone in fancy dress was rewarded with a free subway ticket! The night was a blast with stops along our way including Munros (St Georges Cross), Bloc+ (Cowcaddens), Tingle (St Enoch), Record Factory (Kelvinhall), and Vodka Wodka! (Hillhead). Everyone had a lot of fun, even though not everyone made it to all the stops.

Welcome Back Social
On Friday 2nd October we hosted our first social of the year to welcome back all of our old and new members to the new academic year and celebrate the first week of classes. The event was held in our newly affiliated bar 'Bank Street Bar & Kitchen'. Members had the change to kick back and relax over a drink or two and catch up with all the summer ballroom shenanigans! Aside from being an excellent way to end the week, the event was a good chance for our members to meet each other and mark another upcoming year of GUBLDS. Who wouldn't drink to that?

Taster Session
The Taster Session that followed the Freshers Fair was a roaring success and one of the biggest turn outs GUBLDS has had! We welcomed 54 keen and excited dancers to try out a class with us. Led by our wonderful Team Captain Julia and Teaching Coordinator Tom it was a great session teaching basic Cha Cha and Waltz! The attendees did very well- true ballroom dancers in the making. Thank you to all who attended!

Freshers Fair & Strathcarron Hospice
This year GUBLDS was lucky enough to feature at the university’s Freshers Fair. We were located in the Chapel and had great fun all day meeting all of you interested people! We would like to send a very special thank you to the manager of the Strathcarron Hospice store in Cumbernauld for the kind loan of their mannequin for the day. We affectionately dubbed her Aarowina.
