Gordon McNicol - PresidentHey there!
My name is Gordon, I'm a fifth year Maths student and I am currently serving as your President. I only joined the society one year ago and had never danced before but the society was incredibly welcoming (and did not seem to mind my two left feet!). Quickly dancing become the highlight of my week thanks to the fantastic teaching and friendly environment - it was the perfect way to chill and take my mind of my work. Through the society I made many great friends and fantastic memories and so I wanted to give back and was thrilled to be elected to serve as your President. In this position I set the direction of the society and help to ensure its orderly running. We have a very friendly, fun and inclusive society and it would be great if you came along and tried it out. I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor! |
Katharina Eisenhardt - Vice President and Team CaptainHello, my name is Katharina, I grew up in Berlin and I am now a third-year chemistry student. I have been dancing my whole life and joined GUBLDS as soon as I moved to Glasgow two years ago and have had so much fun, during classes, but especially during competitions, that I have decided to stand up for the Team Captain position in my second year and now again in my third year.
As your Team Captain I am trying to motivate as many people as possible to compete and am organising group travels to make competitions affordable and as easy as possible. I am still competing myself, so I know what it feels like! It is maybe the most fun thing I have done since I am in Glasgow, so I hope I can take away the fear from everyone new and remotivate everyone who has done it before! Please speak to me if you have any questions about competing and come along to our competition hours and give it a try – it’s the most fun thing you can do! |
Hannah Yates - Treasurer and Performance CoordinatorHi, I'm Hannah and I'm a fourth year History student. I've been dancing Ballroom & Latin for 15 years and have been part of the society since my first year at university. Dancing is something that I really love and it's a great way to meet new people as well as learn a unique skill so it's something I really encourage everyone to try!
I hold two positions this year, Performance Coordinator and Treasurer. As Performance Coordinator I am responsible for communicating with our professional teachers and developing steps/routines in classes. This means that if you have any questions about the dances we're doing you can ask me! As treasurer I can answer any of your questions about membership and class fees, as well as issue your membership when you're ready to commit! Hope to see you at our classes this year! |
Eda Lyuman - SecretaryHey, my name is Eda and I'm a second year medical student. I'm the secretary so it's my job to make sure everything is organised and running smoothly.
I joined the society on my second week of uni as a fresher and I've been enjoying it since! I had danced Latin long time ago so I decided to pick it up again. It has been a great opportunity to get to know all the other dancers and make new friends while staying active. I think there is something for everyone to try and enjoy in our society. Just give it a go! |
