Rowan HarrisPresidentHi, my name is Rowan and I'm currently in my fourth year studying History and Archaeology. When I'm not searching for lost treasures, I like to pretend that I can Jive.
As President of the society, it's my job to make important sounding speeches and keep things running smoothly, As a less than competent dancer, I find it disappointing that judges don't award points for vocal proficiency. |
Hannah YatesSecretary and Performance Co-ordinatorHi, my name is Hannah and I am a third year History student.
I have been dancing with GUBLDS since my first year of university as a way of getting back into dancing after a three-year break. Before then, I had been dancing for 12 years, from the age of 3 to 15, where I passed a number of IDTA examinations and competed. GUBLDS has been incredible to me for getting back into Ballroom and Latin because it is so welcoming and friendly, which, as a fresher, was exactly what I needed. The society has grown so much even within the two and a half years I’ve known it, and I am sure this will continue in coming years! As performance coordinator, it is my job to oversee the creation of routines and work with our professional teachers in order to provide the best possible classes that get people enjoying learning the fantastic dances that Ballroom and Latin provides. As well as the four core dances – Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha, and Jive – I also help to organise workshops with our teachers where we can introduce new dances to the class, such as Tango, Paso Doble, Foxtrot, and Rumba, which are always great fun. I love Ballroom and Latin dancing so much and I encourage everyone to come and have a go because it is so fun and you’ll meet some great people whilst you’re doing it! |
